First Intercollegiate Debate

In the early 1890s, Oregon squared off against Albany College (today Lewis & Clark) in what is remembered as one of the first intercollegiate debates in the nation. At a time when public speaking was the premier test of intellect, Oregon took its place as a pioneer in a movement that would sweep across American universities.
